Sony INZONE H9 Review: The Ultimate Wireless Gaming Headset for PS5 and PC?
As a console and PC gamer myself, I’ve been looking for the perfect pair of low-latency wireless headphones. After trying a number of wired and wireless options, including Sony’s own Pulse 3D, I found the Sony INZONE H9 – Sony’s latest premium wireless headphones. These headphones offer a truly exceptional experience by offering comfort during long gaming sessions, but also unmatched sound quality at a price under Rs 30,000.
Although there are a few minor issues, they do not detract from the overall exceptional performance of the INZONE H9. Read our full review of these headphones and discover the impact they can have on your gaming routine.
The Sony INZONE H9 wireless headset is ideal for both competitive and story-driven games on PS5 and PC
The Sony Inzone H9 headset can be used for both PC and PS5 gaming. They also feature a minimalist design that complements the aesthetics of the PS5 console. If you’re looking for a minimalist gaming headset solution – using the same dongle for wireless connectivity, the Inzone H9 might be worth considering.
For competitive gamers, the Sony Inzone H9 offers exceptional sound quality that can give you an edge in spotting your enemies. With its 360 surround sound technology and high-quality 40 mm speakers, you can detect the enemy’s footsteps precisely. This feature is especially noticeable in games like Apex Legends, which have complex soundscapes, including the sounds of enemies, the environment, and other elements. During intense firefights, 360 surround sound allows you to distinguish sounds based on different characters in the game.
Games like God of War Ragnarok sound great using the Inzone H9 without compromising on comfort and connectivity
While the Sony Inzone H9 headset is aimed at esports players, it also offers an exceptional audio experience for casual gamers who play story-driven games. I recently tested God of War Ragnarok on the PlayStation 5 and was amazed at the level of immersion the H9 provided.
The headset utilizes the PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, which allows me to hear even the tiniest sound cues, such as wind and echoes in enclosed spaces, which were previously missing. This added immersion takes the gaming experience to new heights. Yes, like most gaming headsets, the Inzone H9 prioritizes the low-frequency sounds associated with explosive action in modern video games.
During my recent gaming sessions, I was able to immerse myself in different worlds for hours without any discomfort around my ears thanks to the excellent comfort of the headset. They weigh 330g, and to be honest, the weight distribution has been so good that it doesn’t feel like I’m wearing a bulky gaming headset. I find them much nicer than Sony’s Pulse 3D. Yes, they sell for much less, but I wanted to point that out. The boom microphone is also well designed and has a convenient retractable function that allows it to be easily turned on or off. The mic input is impressive, and the sound quality is clear and crisp, rivaling even my stand-alone condenser mic.
The Sony Inzone H9 offers two connectivity options, either via Bluetooth or the included 2.4GHz dongle, err… receiver. And that means you can use them on a wide variety of devices, like your phone, Nintendo Switch, or anywhere else you see fit.
Battery life and ANC: strike a good balance
The Sony Inzone H9 headset promises an impressive battery life of around 30 hours, making it a reliable choice for longer gaming sessions. However, it should be noted that when the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) feature is enabled, the battery life is reduced by about 7-8 hours. However, if you are in a noisy environment and want a distraction-free gaming experience, the built-in ANC is a valuable feature that effectively blocks out unwanted sounds. This makes the trade-off of reduced battery life worth it for a better gaming experience.
The active noise cancellation (ANC) of the Inzone H9 is really impressive. It effectively blocked out external sounds like traffic noise, my air purifier, and other distractions around the house. I tested it during a flight from Jaipur to Delhi, and was pleasantly surprised at how well it blocked out the plane’s ambient noise. While it may not be quite like Sony’s own WH-1000XM5, it still performs exceptionally well as a gaming headset.
A feature we took for granted is missing
While I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using the Sony Inzone H9, my biggest issue with them is the lack of a wired connection option. Despite the growing popularity of wireless headphones and earbuds, I still believe they are consumer products. When the battery goes down, the only option is to replace it, which can be a pain. So when you’re spending nearly thirty grand on a gaming headset, the lack of a wired option is surprising.
It should be a standard feature on all wireless headphones, gaming or not. The wired option is handy when you run out of battery, and also provides a backup in cases where a wireless connection isn’t available, such as with an Xbox controller. In my opinion, and in the opinion of many others I know, a wired connection is a non-negotiable feature.
Despite this, the Sony Inzone H9 remains a highly recommended choice for PS5 and PC gamers looking to invest in a high-end gaming headset in the Rs 30,000 or so range. These headsets offer exceptional performance and features, making them a standout option in the gaming headset market.
Verdict: Get one if you need one
Retails around Rs. 27990, the Inzone H9 is an expensive but smart investment for anyone looking to enhance their gaming experience. The headset excels in almost all the features that make it a great gaming headset, making it the best choice for gamers. If you’re really committed to improving your gaming routine, the Sony Inzone H9 is worth the investment.
In fact, the headphones are now on sale for around Rs 20,000 and at this price there is no better pair you can buy right now. The seamless connectivity between PS5 and PC is simply remarkable.
I would place the Sony Inzone H9 in the rare category of premium gaming headsets that really justify their price. Highly recommended!
