Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveils ‘Optimus’ AI Robot capable of folding shirts
On his X (formerly Twitter) account, Elon Musk shares a variety of fascinating content, from memes about his own platform to products developed by his companies.
And now Elon Musk has released a new video of Optimus, Tesla’s humanoid robot, folding shirts. The video shows the robot picking up a shirt from a basket and then folding it like a human, all in seconds.

However, Musk clarified in his follow-up message that the robot cannot yet do this independently. Nevertheless, Musk added that it “will be able to do this completely autonomously and in an arbitrary environment (not requiring a fixed table with a box with only one shirt).”
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Musk has shown off Optimus’ skills. In September of last year, Musk released a video of a humanoid robot performing a variety of tasks, including sorting colored blocks by color and even stretching the robot’s limbs and doing yoga. And later in December, he showed Optimus Gen 2 boiled eggs.
At the time, Tesla pointed out that the robot can perform these movements and form these postures because it can now calibrate its arms and legs.
This robot is part of Tesla’s AI and Robotics division and uses an AI-first approach. The company says this is the only way to make fully autonomous, bipedal robots using inference hardware. Optimus Gen 2 is the latest robot from Tesla and is the successor to Optimus Gen 1 which was announced in March 2022.
