Unlock the Power of Privacy: Instagram Introduces Read Receipts Off Feature!
Instagram has been conducting numerous tests to enhance user engagement. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, recently announced that the platform is experimenting with a feature allowing users to create personalized stickers from their photos. Furthermore, Instagram has been exploring the idea of a verified-only feed to increase visibility for businesses and creators. Additionally, they tested a feature enabling followers to contribute photos and videos to a carousel. Currently, Instagram is experimenting with another highly requested feature by its users.
A new Instagram feature
Instagram head Adam Mosseri broke the news on his IG Updates broadcast channel that the platform is testing a new feature that will allow users to disable read receipts in DMs. Instagram users have been asking for this feature for a long time because there was no option to disable read receipts. While users can turn off activity mode on Instagram, there was no such option in DMs. Meanwhile, WhatsApp, another Meta app, has had this feature for a long time.
Mosseri wrote: “You asked, we listened. We heard your feedback and have started testing a new feature that lets you turn off read receipts on your DMs. Soon people will be able to choose when they can see others after they’ve read their messages.”
According to reports, Instagram has also been working on bringing end-to-end encryption to Instagram DMs, but the feature will arrive in Messenger first. It plans to enable it by default on Messenger before the end of the year. That’s why end-to-end encryption for Instagram DMs might arrive sometime later.
Other tested features
Instagram is testing a new feature that allows a user’s Followers to add photos and videos to the carousel. From the post it looks like Followers can’t be added to a post by default. The user must first approve it when the request to send a photo or video is sent.
The new feature also appears as a toggle button under the “Following” and “Favorites” feeds. This third option is called Meta Verified, and it turns your feed into accounts that have a Meta verification badge for paying a monthly subscription fee.
Please note that these features are currently being tested and there is no confirmation that they will be available in the final version of the Instagram app.
