WhatsApp is currently experimenting with a chat lock feature for connected devices.
Every now and then, WhatsApp users get a bunch of new features for a fresh, useful experience. A while ago, Meta introduced the ability to lock conversations; This added an extra layer of security on top of the device’s already existing biometric data, preventing others from accessing it.
This has proven to be a useful feature for users, and now they can heave a sigh of relief in the company of snoopy people. However, it should be noted that the same functions will not work on your linked devices as they are device-specific on mobile devices, leaving you out of luck with your other devices. Fortunately, WhatsApp is bringing the chat lock feature to linked devices as well, as discovered by WABetaInfo.
According to the report, when this feature is enabled, WhatsApp chats will be automatically locked on the linked device when they are locked on the main device. “This synchronization of chat locks across devices ensures consistent protection for selected conversations from prying eyes, regardless of the device used,” the report added.
To unlock these chats on the linked device or on the main device, you need the secret code you just set when you locked the chat.
When is it expected to be implemented?
WABetaInfo reports that this feature was first spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.4.14 update; however, it is not clear when this feature would be available to the masses. The release notes that the feature is currently under development and will be available in a future app update.
