WhatsApp Testing Artificial Intelligence-Created Stickers
Generative AI is being used by WhatsApp to test the option of designing personalized stickers. WABetaInfo reports that this feature is currently accessible to a limited group of testers via the Google Play Beta Program. Meta is reportedly planning to make this tool available to a wider audience in the upcoming weeks.
Test participants should see a Create button when they open the keyboard in the sticker tab. As with similar tools, you can write a description of the sticker you want to use. The AI spits out a bunch of stickers that you can choose from and share in your conversations. As WABetaInfo points out, you can report any stickers you find harmful or inappropriate to Metal.
The stickers are said to be easily recognizable, and recipients can be notified when they see one that an AI model has emerged. ReturnByte has asked Meta for clarification.
We’ve seen generative AI creep into more and more mainstream apps this year, so it’s no surprise to see WhatsApp introduce AI-generated stickers. The tool can make WhatsApp conversations feel more personal and avoid people relying too much on used stickers, GIFs and memes without necessarily relying on their own design work. According to reports, a similar feature is also coming to Instagram and Messenger.
