How to Delete Your WhatsApp Account on iOS and Android if You’re Fed Up
In today’s digital world where social media has become an integral part of our lives, there are times when people look forward to simply hitting the reset button. There can be several reasons behind the decision, such as a break from constant announcements or focusing on studying. Sometimes people get bored with one messaging app and look forward to switching to another.
One such popular messaging app is WhatsApp, which is widely used by people around the world. It helps us stay in touch with our family and friends. Sending pictures, videos, audio or documents is easy with WhatsApp.
If you have had enough of WhatsApp and are thinking of deleting it from your smartphone, make sure you deactivate your account before deleting it from your devices. If you don’t, your account will remain active and your contacts will be able to send you messages, but you won’t receive their text messages.
You can delete your WhatsApp account by following some simple steps. However, you should note that deleting your account from WhatsApp is an “irreversible process”.
“You can delete your account from WhatsApp. Deleting your account is an irreversible process that we cannot reverse, even if you do it accidentally,” WhatsApp said.
Here are the quick steps to delete your account from WhatsApp:
For Android devices:
Step 1. Launch the WhatsApp app on your Android device.
Step 2. Click the three dots (More options) in the upper right corner.
Step 3. Select “Settings” and then scroll down and select “Account” option.
Step 4. Click Delete My Account and enter your phone number in full international format.
Step 5. Select the reason why you want to delete your account from the drop-down menu.
Step 6. Click Delete My Account.
For iOS devices:
Step 1. Open WhatsApp on your iOS device
Step 2. Go to Settings option and then select Delete my account under Account section.
Step 3. Enter your phone number in full international format and click Delete My Account.
What happens when you delete your WhatsApp account?
Deleting your account will clear your message history and remove you from all your WhatsApp groups. It will also delete your Google Drive backup and remove you as a channel admin or follower, but your updates will remain visible to your followers.
WhatsApp also states that it can take up to 30 days from the start of the process to remove your data from the app.
