Epic Games Store Set to Launch on iOS and Android Devices This Year

After a long time, the wait is finally over as the Epic Games Store is set to arrive on iOS and Android by the end of this year. The company has revealed this exciting update with the X release, which heralds the arrival of its mobile app store on Apple and Google platforms before the end of 2024.

As reported by Pocketgamer, Epic Games CEO Steve Allison said the company had “tirelessly fought” the gatekeepers on mobile during the State of Unreal event at GDC. This was a major dig at companies like Apple and Google that have dominated the mobile app store segment for the past few years.

Allison also revealed that their upcoming mobile app will be the first ever gaming-focused multi-OS. They are also releasing new self-publishing tools specifically for mobile devices to allow developers to share their creations in a future app.

The State of Unreal Event saw Epic Games claim that the company would follow the existing terms of its PC game store for its mobile app as well. This means that the developers get to keep 88 percent of the revenue generated by the game and 12 percent goes to Epic. These margins are significantly lower than the 30 percent cuts for the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

As for the games, Epic Games has not said what titles users can see with the upcoming mobile app. They will likely provide more updates on the topic in the future.

Since its launch nearly six years ago, the Epic Games Store has garnered worldwide attention, especially for offering high-quality copies of games on a frequent basis. Some of the flagship games that the company has given away in the past include Grand Theft Auto V, Just Cause 4 and Control. The Epic Games Store also has some of the most widely played eSports games around the world, including games like Fortnite and Rocket League. It is the same company that develops the Unreal Engine that is used at the heart of many games.
