Head of Intel’s graphics unit resigns, says he’s working on an artificial intelligence startup
Intel plans to make its future plans for the graphics unit without the expertise and guidance of Raja Koduri, who has decided to leave the company to pursue different goals.
Koduri has been an integral part of Intel’s graphics unit, and his five-year stint is coming to an end as he moves on to build his own generative AI. Pat Gelsinger, Intel’s CEO shared the update via tweets where he mentioned that Koduri will be leaving Intel at the end of this month.
Thank you @RajaXg for the many contributions to Intel’s technology and architecture – especially with high-performance graphics that helped bring 3 new product lines to market in ’22,” Gelsinger shared his parting words with Koduri in this tweet.
Thank you @RajaXg for your many contributions to Intel tech & architecture-especially w/high-performance graphics that helped bring 3 new product lines to market in ‘22. Koduri responded to the remark by sharing his own update about his work at Intel, where he was instrumental in building the last generations of Intel’s graphics unit. “I’m about to start a new chapter in my life and launch the software as mentioned below. There will be more to share in the coming weeks,” Koduri signed off with this tweet.
Intel poached Koduri from AMD in 2017, which was considered a big move for the chip giant at the time. He was even a key part of the team that developed the new Intel Arc graphics team. However, Intel has found it difficult to compete with AMD and Nvidia in the PC graphics segment, where the two brands have continued to develop and offer compelling products that offer better performance for PCs.
Intel has seen several senior executives leave for newer pastures, and with Kodur’s departure, someone will likely fill his big boots at the company.
