Mark Zuckerberg Announces Roblox Integration with Meta Quest VR Headset
Roblox, a highly popular online gaming platform, is set to become accessible on the Meta Quest VR headset. Mark Zuckerberg initially disclosed this news on his Facebook account, which was subsequently confirmed by both Meta and Roblox through separate announcements. In the upcoming weeks, an open beta version of the app will be introduced in the Quest’s App Lab, paving the way for the official launch of the game platform.
Announcing it, Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post: “Get ready: Roblox is coming to Meta Quest with an App Lab open beta in the coming weeks. We’re excited for Roblox developers to build VR experiences and gather feedback from their awesome Quest community.”
The announcement is considered big because around 66 million users join Roblox every day, making the app very popular. Roblox was also a big player in the metaverse space and was rumored to join the Meta Quest platform in the second half of 2023.
Roblox comes to the Meta’s Quest platform
Roblox on Meta Quest is available to all users aged 13 or over, the gaming platform’s official blog post said. It added: “This opens up a new opportunity for developers to create and share their experiences with millions of people instantly on Meta Quest. Roblox developers can bring their existing experiences to Meta Quest or create unique new experiences in their VR minds.”
Players can use Roblox in the upcoming Meta Quest 3, as well as the existing Quest 2 and Quest Pro.
In a press release, Meta stated that the open beta application provides a great opportunity for the Roblox developer community to optimize existing games on console and PC for a virtual reality experience. It also gave them the opportunity to build new VR-centric games by taking feedback from the Quest community.
Roblox is also adding its massive library of over 15 million games to Quest. It added: “Roblox automatically publishes some experiences that use default player scripts to support VR devices. They’ve found that these experiences typically work well in VR without modification, so they’re seeding the Roblox VR library with great content from the start.”
In addition, Roblox’s cross-platform functionality is also available, meaning users can connect, play and interact with users on Xbox, iOS, Android and desktop computers.
