ONDC: Get Affordable Tomatoes Online to Combat Rising Prices
The working class is feeling the impact of skyrocketing tomato prices, with one kilogram costing between Rs. 130 to Rs. 150 in Delhi on July 27. As tomatoes are a staple food item used in many basic recipes, these prices are affecting everyone. However, there is an online alternative for those tired of paying exorbitant amounts. The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a government-operated platform connecting sellers and buyers, has partnered with the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF) to offer tomatoes at a significantly discounted price of just Rs. 70 per kilogram. If you reside in an area where ONDC services are available, you can conveniently order them online.
What is ONDC
ONDC is simply an open switching network built on the Beckn protocol (a distributed network). It does not require a specific app and can work directly from UPI or other similar apps. ONDC aims to eliminate middlemen in e-commerce so that the seller can sell directly to the buyer. This way, the buyer gets the product at a lower price and the seller still ends up making big profits. Third-party logistics providers are responsible for the fulfillment of the order.
The service is currently available only in select cities including Delhi NCR, Maharashtra, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Hyderabad and Bagalkot. But more regions will be added to it soon.
What you can get from ONDC
ONDC offers a wide range of products because it is an open network and any seller can start selling their products. Some of the network’s most popular categories include food and beverage, groceries, electronics, fashion, and home decor.
How to order cheap tomatoes from ONDC
Since ONDC doesn’t have an app, you need to first download the platforms where it is available. You can use Paytm, Magicpin, Meesho, PhonePe, Mystore and others for online access. Here we are sharing the steps for Paytm which is one of the most common ways to get the products home via ONDC.
1. In Paytm either search for ONDC Food or scroll down to find “Paytm se ONDC”.
2. When you are in ONDC Food, you need to search for “Tomatoes from NCCF”.
3. Go to the page and choose tomatoes, which is the only offer on the page.
4. Offer must be from a retail store near your location.
5. Add your delivery address. Pay. And the tomatoes should be delivered to you soon.
Please note that NCCF only allows consumers to purchase tomatoes in 2 kilogram lots. In addition, the store is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additionally, inventory availability can be another factor in whether you can buy tomatoes or not.
