Warning: Be Aware of WhatsApp ‘Video Call Extortion’ Scam
WhatsApp is one of the most used instant messaging apps in India. As almost every Indian spends most of their time on this Meta-owned app, hackers and scammers often come up with new tricks to fool victims on WhatsApp. In recent months, scammers have been using a new video calling trick.
Now WhatsApp users are reporting scandalous video calls regularly. In fact, Delhi Police recently arrested two men for allegedly making ‘blackmail calls’ on WhatsApp to Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel. They made a video call, repeated clear content and tried to blackmail her.
– However, the minister is said to have ended the call quickly and reported the incident to the police. By the way, this is not an isolated case of sex blackmail, Gadgets Now reports.
Extortion crimes are on the rise in India and globally due to the popularity of video calling. It is a type of cybercrime that involves blackmailing someone by threatening to reveal sexually revealing images or videos of them.
Even the FBI has issued a warning about criminals using AI to create blackmail images, mainly from innocent online photos or conversations.
