YouTube Music To Introduce Automated Podcast Downloads
YouTube Music, the Google-owned music streaming service developed by YouTube, is introducing the ability to automatically download podcasts, as reported by 9to5google.
According to the report, auto-downloading of podcasts will be available in YouTube Music version 6.21 for both Android and iOS. To access this feature, go to the program’s page and click the new settings gear icon and select Save to Library. This step will reveal the Enable Automatic Downloads button, which will instantly download the latest episode to your device for offline listening.
According to the report, auto-uploads work on a per-show (and per-device) basis, so you’ll need to enable them individually. In Google Podcasts, you can quickly enable/disable downloads using the automatic download page. In YouTube Music, you can manage downloaded podcasts by going to the Library tab, selecting Podcasts, and using the individual overflow menus.
“Starting today, episodes you’ve finished listening to won’t be deleted automatically. It’s possible that files will be deleted when a new episode is available/downloaded, or after a certain amount of time, like a whole day, but we can’t test that yet,” 9to5google said in its report.
The report also suggested that many users are eagerly awaiting the ability to subscribe via RSS on YouTube Music. This would turn it into a straightforward podcast player, eliminating the need for programs to create and upload video versions.
