2026 Release Date Set for Apple Watch Ultra Featuring MicroLED Display

According to MacRumors, Apple is said to be working on the development of the Apple Watch Ultra, which will feature a microLED display. However, market research firm Trendforce has indicated that the release of this watch might be delayed until 2026.

According to previous reports, including those from analyst Ross Young, the microLED Apple Watch Ultra was slated to launch sometime in the second half of 2025. However, according to TrendForce, the microLED Apple Watch Ultra is unlikely to be released until the first quarter of 2026. may be due to the unscalable costs of mass production. The clock can only be released when Apple is able to manufacture microLED displays at scale.

MacRumors notes that Apple has invested more than $1 billion in “internal microLED development” so that it can reduce its reliance on Samsung Display and gain more control over the supply of key components.

Currently, Apple does not have a microLED-powered device in this lineup, and the Apple Watch Ultra is expected to be the first Apple product to ship with it. Apple is said to be pursuing microLED technology because it has inherent advantages over OLED, such as longer battery life and less risk of burn-in. In particular, the previous Apple Watch Ultra has an OLED screen.
