Apple Watch Ultra to Feature MicroLED Display and Significant Enhancements

Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is reportedly planning major changes to the Watch Ultra. According to reports, MicroLED display technology will be the next big upgrade to the Apple Watch Ultra.

“A Weibo account known as ‘Instant Digital’ claims that the next worthwhile upgrade for Apple Watch Ultra users will be Apple’s custom microLED display technology, but the feature is not expected to launch until next year,” MacRumors reported.

“The source was the first to report on the iPhone 14 yellow spring update, the iPhone 15 Pro spatial video and the Apple Watch Series 9 minor update, as well as the only rumor claiming that the iPhone 15 and ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus will have a frosted glass back,” it added. .

According to MacRumors, Apple’s plan to bring a microLED display to the Apple Watch Ultra is getting widespread support, starting with a report from display analyst Ross Young in January. TrendForce has reported that Apple’s first microLED display in the new Apple Watch Ultra model is now expected in 2026, due in part to supply chain adjustments. This contradicts previous reports that suggested a possible launch in 2025.

The MicroLED display is expected to measure 2.12 inches, representing a 10 percent increase over the current Apple Watch Ultra display size.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also reported that the US iPhone maker is likely to bring custom microLED displays to the iPhone, iPad and Mac after the technology debuts in the new Apple Watch Ultra. He believes that Apple’s long-term plan is to bring microLED displays to all of its major products.

Several reports from sources such as DigiTimes, Nikkei Asia, and The Information have all hinted at Apple’s plans to move to custom microLED displays in various product lines. This strategic move aims to reduce Apple’s dependence on Samsung for display technology.
