Samsung has stuck to the circular design for its smartwatch for a long time, so now it is time for a change and square seems to be its pick.Gadgets

Samsung is expected to take inspiration from Apple’s design for its upcoming Galaxy smartwatch.

According to the latest reports, the Samsung Galaxy Watch lineup may see a major visual change in the near future. The company is likely to follow Apple’s design cues and opt for a square screen, just like the Apple Watch series. Samsung has stayed true to its rotary dial efforts for the longest time, but it’s probably time to change things up, and using a new design for the screen really makes sense.

The Galaxy Watch lineup has gone through updates over the years, but you tend to see the same design and it’s time for a brand refresh.

The report doesn’t mention when Samsung might introduce the new design, and it’s likely that the Galaxy Watch 8 series might be a better option for the new square design to compete with the Apple Watch lineup. Samsung has started using Google’s WearOS platform since the release of the Galaxy Watch 4 series.

The next-generation WearOS technology also aims to solve a big problem for smartwatch users, which is mediocre battery life. The new OnePlus Watch 2 appears to be the first model to benefit from this new battery architecture, and we may see Samsung and even the Google Pixel adopt the technology in their future models.

The latest Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic are identical to the Galaxy Watch 5 lineup, so a design overhaul may be overdue, giving Samsung more of its arsenal to compete with the best in the segment. We may not have to wait long to see the new Galaxy Z Foldables and Galaxy Watch 7 series, with several reports pointing to a Samsung Galaxy launch event in July to announce these products.
