Microsoft’s AI ‘Generative Ease’ for Windows swiftly eliminates unwanted objects from photos

It is clear that the number of generative AI-based features launched for smartphones has increased significantly. One notable example is Magic Eraser, which was originally launched for the Google Pixel. Since then, various adaptations of this feature have gradually made their presence felt on other Android phones, including the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

Now Windows 11 and Windows 10 users can get a taste of it too, but Microsoft’s take on it is called “Generative Erase.” As announced by Microsoft, this feature, along with other AI-based features like Background Blur and Background Blur, is now available in the Photos App on Windows 10 and Arm64 devices. However, note that you need to update the app to version 2024.11020.21001.0 to start enjoying these features.

“This feature lets you fix and remove distractions from your photos, such as background objects or miscellaneous visual clutter. Compared to Spot Fix, Generative Erase creates a more seamless and realistic result after removing objects from a photo, even when removing large areas,” Microsoft said.

Here’s how to use the feature:

1. Open the Photos app and go to Edit photo.

2. Next, select the Delete option.

3. Now adjust the size of the brush according to the precision you need.

4. You can also disable Auto Use to add or remove masks, where each mask represents the area to be removed.
