Rise of AI Causes Growing Anxiety Over Potential Job Losses

According to a study conducted by the OECD, the current effect of the swift expansion of Artificial Intelligence on employment is minimal. However, the study highlights the substantial potential for this technology to replace jobs, which has led to growing concerns among workers about their future.

Early adopters of AI are reluctant to lay off staff, and it can improve working life by helping with laborious and dangerous tasks. According to a survey of 2,000 employers and 5,300 employees in industry and finance in seven OECD countries.

The organization said the global economy is still in the early stages of AI adoption, and the potential for job destruction remains high, in part because all industries and occupations are vulnerable.

Three out of five workers worry about losing their jobs entirely in the next decade, and three-quarters say AI has increased the intensity of work.

“The recent acceleration of developments and tools related to generative artificial intelligence marks a technological watershed with material implications for many workplaces,” OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann said.

The Paris-based group said international organizations and regulators must respond with more effective cooperation and frameworks for working with artificial intelligence.
