Apple TV App May Receive Major Revamp

Apple’s TV app and its Apple TV+ subscription service have been slowly moving up the ranks of the streaming business, and now it looks like the Apple TV app could be changing as Apple looks to double down on its streaming ambitions. In doing so, Apple aims to unify its video offerings, Bloomberg reports.

Simply put, it could be a place to stream all your favorite movies and TV shows (from different providers). And that change will come in the form of an app update sometime in December as part of tvOS.

The service currently offers content from iTunes, an Apple TV+ subscription, and even other streaming platforms like Amazon Prime, but as part of this “consolidation,” Apple is expected to remove specific apps from the Apple TV box that users can rent or buy. video content such as TV series and movies. Apple may also remove the same form from the iTunes Store app on iPhone and iPad.

Mark Gurman claims that with this, Apple hopes to draw more attention to its Apple TV app, and since it’s the “centerpiece of Apple’s expanding video strategy,” it makes sense for Apple to offer a streamlined experience.

The new updated app will of course allow users to browse video content on Apple TV+, and it will allow users to subscribe to other services such as Paramount Plus and countless other services that you can find and subscribe to. And with that in mind, Apple has recently offered a slew of critically-acclaimed hits through its Apple TV+ subscription, including Ted Lasso, Silo, and The Morning Show. This could also help Apple push the initiative forward.

Also, as part of the redesign, the new app could offer a side panel-like interface, reminiscent of something like Netflix, to improve navigation. Currently, the Apple TV app is present on its Apple TV box and other manufacturers’ TVs that have the same.
