Awesome Games Done Quick Speedrunning Charity Event to Make a Comeback in January

The popular charity gaming event, Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ), will make a comeback in January after being held virtually due to COVID. This time, it will be an in-person event taking place at the Wyndham Hotel in Pittsburgh from January 14th to the 21st. However, even with the return to an in-person format, viewers can still enjoy the event by streaming it through the Games Done Quick Twitch channel.

For the uninitiated, the AGDQ is a sprint marathon event that runs all day and night throughout the week. AGDQ 2024 is in support of the Prevent Cancer Foundation, and you can quickly donate to the charity on Twitch or through the Games Done Quick website. The event raised more than $3.5 million for the foundation in 2022 and $2.6 million last year. A sister event is also organized in the summer, which has raised millions of dollars for the Doctors Without Borders organization.

AGDQ 2024 is still months away, so the organizers have not yet announced the list of participants and games. In recent years, speedrunners have released hundreds of releases, from newer titles like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice to retro-flavored gems like Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Doom. Yes, cutting 2010’s Super Mario Galaxy 2 into a retro makes me feel old, but it is.

Games Done Quick has noted that speedrunners don’t need to head to Pittsburgh to participate, as distance runs are available for those who can’t travel. The organization accepts sprint proposals from 1 to 10 September, so start your Running Training now.
