Bill Gates praises Indian innovation, highlighting the impressive AI work happening in the country.

During a recent statement, Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft and a philanthropist, expressed his belief that there are many exciting advancements happening in the realm of Artificial Intelligence. He also mentioned that the country is well-positioned to take on a significant role in leading the way in this field.

In an interview with ANI, Bill Gates said, “Well, there is a lot of fantastic AI work going on in this country. You have innovators like Nandan Nilekani who is doing all that digital work and saying, OK, how is AI going to make it even better? You have the likes of Wadhwan groups. You have IIT groups that are top-notch. There’s going to be a lot of fantastic AI leadership work here in India. And when it helps the poorest in areas like healthcare and agriculture, our foundation is proud to help shape that and support that.”

Gates believes that India has made rapid progress in digital public infrastructure and there has been a lot of improvement in key areas.

“The rate of improvement in many key areas is very, very strong. You know, everybody knows that India is the world leader in vaccines, so we’re investing with our partners to develop a lot of new vaccines. Part of the pandemic work has become the diagnostics industry, so we’re collaborating there as well. This idea digital connectivity, which starts with Aadhaar and your digitally managed bank accounts, is booming. And that’s what we’re seeing in agriculture now, they’re registering farmers and notifying them in advance,” the Microsoft co-founder said.

Gates suggested that several countries around the world can learn from PM Modi

“So there’s something about India’s leadership that other countries should benefit from. Going back to the G20, India expressed a desire to help others. And we’re India’s partner. In fact, I was talking to the foreign minister today about what can we do to speed up development. They’re getting some of these benefits that are have been so amazing here in India,” he said.

Gates said that India’s current strength in terms of economic growth and innovation is very exciting, but he emphasized that India’s investment in education is paying off and praised political competition in a democracy to provide better comfort to people.

“I think India’s current strength in terms of economic growth and innovation is very exciting. That’s why companies like Microsoft have 25,000 people here doing absolutely incredible work. It developed over 25 years, and that’s how the foundation was laid to train people and now it’s paying off,” the Microsoft founder added .

Reflecting on India’s democratic system, Gates described it as magical because it not only prioritized the interests of certain groups but also focused on overall economic improvement, healthcare and education. Gates praised Indian innovation and stated that each visit reinforces the perception that Indian innovation has progressed.

“It’s nice to see you have a government where there is some political competition, I run the health care system better than they do. I make the schools better than they do. Democracy is a magic system when it works. It’s not just that my group deserves the nomination, but rather for my group to grow the pie for all, improve the economy and improve education,” he said, praising India’s democracy where parties are working towards the country’s development.

Gates, who visited India with several different groups and feels that Indian innovation is at a higher level.

“I think democracy, it’s a magical system, you know, when it works well, you know, not only does my group deserve a turn, but rather my group increases the pie for everyone, improves the economy. improves health and improves education. And so all the time that I’ve been here, you know, every time, wow, Indian innovation is at a much higher level. And the health statistics, you know, they’re honest like, okay, here we are. This has been improved,” Gates said.

Gates also recently visited IIT Delhi and also the state of Odisha where he met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Bill Gates was awarded the KISS Humanitarian Award 2023 in recognition of his contributions to global healthcare, education and the fight against climate change through innovative technological solutions aimed at reducing inequality.
