BYJU’S Introduces Generative AI to Assist Students, Assures No Substitution of Teachers

BYJU’s, a leading edtech company, announced on Wednesday that it has incorporated generative artificial intelligence into its learning modules. The company emphasized that this technology is not intended to replace teachers.

The company has introduced a new set of three AI models to BYJU’s WIZ suite – BADRI, Math GPT and TeacherGPT – to understand students’ learning patterns and develop methods to help them learn better.

Divya Gokulnath, co-founder of BYJU, told PTI that the introduction of AI is not meant to replace teachers, but to enhance the organization and help teachers focus better on assigned tasks.

He said videos have been used in the learning system, but they have not replaced teachers.

“No artificial intelligence can replace what we did as teachers in that video. Artificial intelligence can’t replace what we as teachers do in live classes and in BYJU’s teaching centers, but artificial intelligence can allow us teachers to get clearer feedback on our students’ performance so we can help them become better to become learners,” Gokulnath said.

He said that the efficiency that comes to the system with the artificial intelligence module will positively affect the company’s turnover and margins and will be fruitful for the entire organization.

“It’s never technology versus teachers. It’s always technology and teachers. Technology has empowered me. Technology has empowered me. Teachers can use this to make themselves better teachers. Nothing can replace the role of a teacher. Nothing can replace it’s the humanity they bring to the classroom that is critical to a child’s healing,” Gokulnath said.

BYJU Innovation and Learning Manager Dev Roy, the predictive AI model developed by BADRI is able to assess students’ learning patterns and develop prompts accordingly.

“It makes two students learn the same subject differently based on their learning behavior. It finds out if there is a problem in understanding the concept or if the student makes silly mistakes and prompts accordingly,” Roy said.

The MathGPT module uses advanced machine learning algorithms to provide accurate solutions to complex math challenges, including trigonometric proofs, and is able to generate its own questions for student practice.

“We believe that BYJU’S WIZ will usher in a new era of personalized learning and take a significant leap forward in educating future generations. Its launch is the culminating event in our ongoing endeavor to teach students not only ‘what to learn’ but also ‘how to learn,'” Roy said.
