Expanded features now available for Shortwave email AI! Enjoy Instant Summaries, AI Autocomplete, and more.

AI apps such as ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Midjourney have become prevalent in various online tasks. Not only are these technologies used to develop new applications, but they are also being integrated into established platforms like Adobe, Meta, Alphabet, and Microsoft. The objective is to simplify user experiences, enhance productivity, and minimize manual labor. Shortwave, an app designed to boost email productivity, was introduced last year by ex-Google employees. Now, this AI assistant for emails is receiving a range of new AI capabilities. For more information, refer to the complete details below.

Shortwave: new features

1. Instant summaries – One of the features coming to Shortwave is instant summaries. Until now, Shortwave allowed users to create summaries with the click of a button. But with a new feature, it automatically generates one-line summaries from an email or thread. To get a longer version, all you have to do is tap on the previously created one. Users can even ask email-related questions.

The longer version is created using GPT-4 Turbo, while the short version uses open source models and Shortwave’s own GPU. This might help them keep costs down.

2. AI Assistant Extension – In addition, Shortwave extends its AI assistant to Android and iOS applications as well. Launched in September last year, AI Assistant can find, read, analyze and report emails in seconds. It’s handy when you’re looking for information that isn’t easy to find with traditional keyword searches. You can also use AI Assistant to research general knowledge questions without leaving your email.

3. AI Autocomplete – With the update, the AI Autocomplete feature has also been enabled. Users now automatically see suggestions when they draft emails. Press tab to complete. Shortwave says these AI suggestions are intelligent and based on previous emails written by users, so they sound just like the user. It is powered by Shortwave’s Ghostwriter AI personalization technology.
