Is the Google Pixel 6a no longer available online, hinting at an upcoming Pixel 8a launch?

The Google Pixel 8a will be released in the coming months, and now we have the biggest hint yet about the new phone. Google has digitally taken the Pixel 6a off the shelves, which could be a sign that the Pixel 8a launch isn’t far off.

We independently checked the Google Store online to see if the lineup has been reviewed and found that the Pixel 7a is the cheapest Pixel phone that Google has officially listed with no sign of the Pixel 6a. The Google Pixel 6a is a few years old and was released in 2022 and is just a year away from losing its official operating system support period. But more importantly, Google’s delisting of the Pixel 6a also points to the imminent release of the Pixel 8a, now that we have official details from the Google I/O 2024 keynote in May this year.

Google has traditionally used its developer event to launch a new model of the Pixel a series, and we don’t understand why the company would change this trend this year as well. The Pixel 6a may be off the shelves, but current Pixel 6a owners can keep using their device until at least 2025 for OS updates, and until 2027 if you’re happy with an old version of Android but with regular security updates from Google.

Google Pixel 8a Launched in May 2024: What We Know

Google has yet to confirm an official release date for the Pixel 8a, but we’ve got more information about the upcoming mid-range Pixel phone courtesy of Kamila Wojciechowska. Tip claims the Pixel 8a has a 120Hz refresh rate display with a peak brightness of 1,400 nits. However, this report says that the Pixel 8a may not see major hardware upgrades, especially the cameras of the upcoming Pixel model.

The Pixel 8a should feature the Tensor G3 chipset, which also powers the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, and is much better than the Tensor G2 in terms of power management. In terms of design, we may see a more rounded approach with the Pixel 8a, which should give it a better hand feel and grip. The Pixel 7a was launched at around Rs 42,000 and we hope that Google will launch the Pixel 8a at a competitive price.
