Should You Invest in the Oppo Find N3 Flip for Rs 95,000?

Foldable has divided opinion over the years, with many sitting on the fence about whether the form factor will ever become mainstream. Well, those doubts have gradually dissipated, with brands like Samsung and Oppo helping the cause.

To be honest, I haven’t had a chance to test the foldable device through the daily grind, so when the Oppo Find N3 Flip was handed to me, I was wary of how it would hold up to wear and tear, if any. Can folding screen wrinkles also become an afterthought like a headline. We used the Find N3 Flip for the past few weeks to see if the foldable device is finally ready to go mainstream despite costing over Rs 90,000.

Oppo Find N3 Flip Review: What’s Cool?

Samsung has a long lead in the foldable space, but it’s good to see Oppo trying to change the picture. The Find N3 Flip strikes the right balance between design and practicality, making it the ideal daily runner for most people.

It’s not the lightest by any means, but the overall dimensions allow you to use it and keep it in your pocket without feeling its weight, and that’s a good sign. The hinge feels durable and the company claims it can withstand 6,00,000 folds and unfolds, which can last up to 10 years.

Oppo has supplied a 120Hz refresh rate display for the internal LTPO AMOLED display, which gives it a smooth touch when navigating between apps and also saves battery by switching from 1Hz to 120Hz depending on what’s running on the screen.

The display quality is quite good and it is bright enough at 1600 nits that you can watch content in sunlight. When you open the screen, you can hardly see any wrinkles on the screen, which tells of Oppo’s focus on finer details.

Speaking of the flip screen, it’s smaller than the Find N2 Flip, but Oppo has managed to give the display a high profile that makes using apps like Maps, YouTube Music and WhatsApp much easier. You can add fun and colorful themes and icons to make it look exciting on the cover.

Oppo has used the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset with 12GB of RAM and offers 256GB of storage. We’ve seen the capability of this chip in the Vivo X90 Pro launched earlier this year, and performance was never a sore spot for the Find N3 Flip in our time. We barely noticed the phone lagging, games were played at the highest settings and still no big heating problems.

One of the reasons why Oppo is using a smaller cover is the introduction of a triple camera system, a first for any foldable device. Oppo has used its Hasselblad links to color the sensors, and the results are generally flagship-worthy.

You have a wide, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto sensor that can take quality photos in daylight and at dusk. The company has added a dual camera option, which allows you to see the subject on both the screen and use both of them as a viewfinder.

Oppo also makes sure that the foldable juices don’t run out before the end of the day. The Find N3 Flip has a 4,300 mAh battery, which during our tests provided an average of 6-7 hours of screen-on time. And with 44W charging support that gives you 0-50 percent in about 22 minutes, the phone’s downtime is less than you might imagine.

Oppo Find N3 Flip Review: What’s Not So Cool?

There’s a lot to like about the Find N3 Flip, but we didn’t like how close the power and volume buttons are. This came to light when we used the power button to unlock the device and ended up accidentally pressing the volume button. We hope that in the next few years, in-display fingerprint scanners could be one option to solve this problem.

Oppo has made lofty claims of hinge durability of up to 10 years, but such numbers cannot be guaranteed unless someone actually tests them for that long.

We really can’t say how the phone will fare in the next few years, let alone 10 years, and that’s a concern too, regardless of what the company says.

Oppo Find N3 Flip Review: Should You Buy?

The Oppo Find N3 Flip is a decent upgrade to the Find N2 Flip and a noteworthy addition to the foldable lineup on the market. People say that Rs 95,000 is a lot for an Oppo phone, and rightly so, but other brands in this segment, apart from Tecno, are not cheap either. But for its price, Oppo offers a rounder device that is easy and comfortable to use, the cameras are just as good, there is a fast charging battery and the cover screen makes its presence felt.

We are concerned about how the hinge will hold up in the long run, and the placement of the buttons may require some thought. But overall, the Find N3 Flip is a sign that foldables are headed in the right direction.
