ISRO employment: Somanath shares inspiring salary journey of IIT students; appeals with sincerity

The Chairman of ISRO, S Somanath, expressed his desire to have more IITians join the organization during his speech at Techfest, the annual science and technology festival of IIT Bombay. Somanath encouraged the students to contribute to India’s space missions and assist in the development of the nation by becoming a part of ISRO.

According to reports, the ISRO chairman would also shed some light on ISRO’s future space missions, including the Gaganyaan mission, India’s first space flight program, and the launch of the Bharat Antariksh station, the first phase of which will be implemented by 2028. the launch is planned for 2035. “All of you are excited about space now, after the landing of Chandrayaan-3. But I’m more excited about the opportunities that lie ahead of us in the future. And the path is now very well defined and the challenges ahead are really exciting,” Business Standard quoted Somanath as saying.

He also highlighted future lunar missions, including one that would send humans to the moon, as well as the idea of establishing a lunar economy, all of which the space agency aims to achieve by 2047.

The ISRO chairman also urged the students of IIT Bombay to join ISRO’s efforts. “Actually, I had given a talk at IIT-Chennai. Although you might have heard my talk about the IITs and their contribution to the space program. I’m not going into that field at all today. But I hope there will be… I would be happy to see more IITians joining the space program and participating in nation building.”

In a previous interview with Asianet News, Somanath revealed that ISRO had tried to recruit engineers from IITs last year in October, but 60 per cent of the candidates walked out after seeing the pay structure. “But they don’t join ISRO. If we go and try to recruit from IITs, nobody joins,” he said.
