Meta Connect 2023: A Look Back at AI Chatbot, Quest 3 Headset, Ray-Ban Glasses and More

Meta has finally wrapped up its Connect 2023 event, where the Mark Zuckerberg-led company launched new devices, including the new Quest 3 VR headset, RayBan smart glasses and Meta AI.

The company doubled down on its generative AI ambitions with new plans to integrate AI by adding Meta AI to some of its most popular platforms, including Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger.

Facebook’s parent company is expanding rapidly to better compete in the rapidly heating up artificial intelligence race, which also has big-name rivals like Google, OpenAI and Amazon.

Meta AI Chatbot

Metalla finally has its own chatbot called Meta AI. The new chatbot would be available in Meta applications such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and in the future it will also come to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Quest 3.

Meta notes that the chatbot has a custom model based on Llama 2, its latest major language model that it announced earlier this year, and Meta has also partnered with Bing to provide a tool for image generation as well as real-time. access to information.

To summon this new helper, users must type @MetaAI /imagine followed by a descriptive text prompt such as “create a button badge with a hiker and redwoods” and it will create a digital badge in the chat. with your friends.

New AI characters

“In addition to Meta AI, there are 28 other AIs you can message on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram,” Meta said. The company notes that users should see these characters as unique individuals with distinct personalities and backstories.

Profiles are even created for them on Instagram and Facebook. Meta is releasing these in beta today in the US. In the future, users can also expect AI characters of popular celebrities such as Bear Grylls, Chloe Kim and Josh Richards.

Quest 3 Mixed Reality Headset

Meta also launched the third generation of its Quest headphones – the Meta Quest 3. The device is priced at $499.99 in the US for the 128GB model and $649.99 for the 512GB version. It’s powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, which Meta says enables twice the GPU processing power of the Meta Quest 2.

“This delivers enough power to support heavy-duty applications such as high-speed gaming, seamless full color, high-resolution pass-through, and more,” notes Meta.

Meta calls it a “mixed reality” headset, which means it comes with 2 RGB cameras with 18 PPD. It offers “10X the resolution of Quest 2 and 2X the resolution of Quest Pro in pass-through. Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses

Along with the Quest 3, Meta also announced that it is partnering with Ray-Ban to enable Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

These glasses feature Meta’s new AI Assistant and a 12-megapixel camera for recording photos and videos and even streaming on Facebook and Instagram. And users can also make and receive calls hands-free and listen to music with these glasses.

There are two different styles of glasses: Wayfarer and Headliner. They are available for a starting price of $299; available in 15 countries including the US, Canada, Australia and Europe.

Roblox available for Meta Quest

As previously announced, Roblox has finally made its way to the Meta Quest platform. At Connect 2023, Mark Zuckerberg said, “Roblox is launching today” and “I’m really excited about this. After taking a long time to optimize it for VR, it’s going to be a big deal.”
