Sam Altman and Prime Minister Modi Discuss India’s Technology Infrastructure

During his trip to India, Sam Altman, the co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the workings of the country’s tech ecosystem.

“Great conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi about India’s incredible tech ecosystem and how the country can benefit from AI,” Altman tweeted.

He added, “Really enjoyed all my meetings with people at @PMOIndia.”

As reported by CNBCTV18, Altman, who was addressing the audience at Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology in Delhi, revealed the topics he discussed with PM Modi. “We talked about the opportunities before the country, what the country should do, and also the need to think about global regulation so that some of the downsides don’t happen. It was a great class,” Alman said.

Altman, who is also on tour to visit other countries including Israel, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and South Korea, also recently claimed that the Microsoft-backed company is not currently “training” GPT-5.

At an event hosted by The Economic Times, Altman said: “We have a lot of work to do before GPT5. It will take a lot of time. We are nowhere near it.”

“We are working on new ideas that we think we need for that, but we are nowhere near the beginning. More security audits are needed: I wish I could tell you about the timeline for the next GPT,” he added.

Altman, who co-founded OpenAI in 2015, also recently broke ground on the dangers of generative AI to humanity earlier this year. He believes that if generative AI (which produces LLMs) goes wrong (you get the feel), things could go “very wrong”.
