Samsung to reveal new smart ring at Mobile World Congress 2024

Samsung Electronics Co. is set to introduce its inaugural wearable smart ring as a component of its health product range at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The South Korean company is showing off the Galaxy Ring publicly for the first time since teasing it last month at the launch of the Galaxy S24 series of smartphones in California. The Galaxy Ring offers users more personalized and seamless experiences supported by advances in artificial intelligence, Samsung said in a statement on Sunday.

Visitors to Mobile World Congress will also be able to see new health features on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series paired with the Samsung Galaxy S24 before it launches later this year, Samsung said. The official release of the Galaxy Ring is expected later in 2024.

Health tracking is already a key selling point for smartphones and watches, and Samsung, Apple Inc. and Alphabet Inc.’s Google use such features to attract and retain customers.

A particularly valuable breakthrough would be the creation of sensors for continuous blood pressure monitoring and glucose monitoring. Apple has been working for years on a glucose monitor that doesn’t require users to prick their skin — a potential boon for millions of diabetics.
