“September Shutdown for ‘Call of Duty: Warzone’ Battle Royale”

Activision has announced that the original free-to-play battle royale game, Call of Duty: Warzone (now referred to as Warzone Caldera), will be permanently shut down on September 21st. This decision has been made to enable developers to concentrate on upcoming Call of Duty content, including the current free-to-play experience of Warzone (previously known as Warzone 2.0), according to a blog post by Activision.

Warzone launched in 2020 and features two game modes (Battle Royale and Plunder) and one map called Verdansk that supported up to 150 players at a time. The game was renamed Call of Duty: Warzone Caledera (after the 2021 Caledera map) when Warzone 2.0 was released in November 2022.
