Telecom Minister Warns Public Against Answering Calls from Unfamiliar Numbers

On Friday, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Telecom Minister, advised individuals to avoid answering calls from unidentified numbers and emphasized that the ministry’s efforts have led to a notable decrease in spam calls and cybercrime incidents.

“People should never pick calls from unknown numbers. I ask every citizen to answer calls (telephone/cell phone) only from numbers they know. He answered a question about spam calls and online scams.

Vaishnau said his ministry recently launched a ‘Sanchar Saathi’ portal to prevent spam calls and email fraud. He added that more than 40 faulty SIM cards and 41,000 faulty ‘point of sale’ agents were blacklisted.

He said the use of artificial intelligence has greatly helped in reducing these incidents.

The minister said that unknown numbers should be answered only if an introductory message has been sent from the callers.
