Twitch Introduces More Detailed ‘Labels’ to Replace Mature Content Mode

Twitch has revamped its policies regarding mature content by introducing specific categories that provide a detailed description of what viewers can anticipate, instead of a general toggle. The new Content Classification Labels include mature-rated games, sexual themes, significant profanity or vulgarity, gambling, violent and graphic depictions, and drugs, intoxication or excessive tobacco use.

Ratings apply to both the game and you. For example, if you’re playing an adult game, Twitch will automatically mark it as such. But if you’re playing E-rated and swearing too much, you’ll need to flag your stream for significant swearing or profanity. In general, it’s pretty clear when to use names based on the names, but Twitch’s content classification guidelines explain when to use each in incredible detail (from pose marks to classifying profanity). The rules regarding prohibited things in streams have remained unchanged.

You can use content rating tags in Stream Manager’s “Edit Stream Details” section under the language control. The drop-down menu shows six options and a short description after each. All you have to do is click on the one that applies to your current stream, and if it changes, add or remove them as you go.

Remember that any tags that remain selected when you end a stream will automatically be used for the next one unless you unclick them. You can report users to Twitch (and vice versa) if they don’t include the required stickers, and if Twitch approves, they’ll issue a warning.

While these new content rating tags are already in place, Twitch is giving everyone some adjustment time. You can still get strikes, but Twitch won’t start counting them until after July 20th. In this case, the “repeated warnings” will probably still not get you suspended on Twitch, but you will decide to lock certain ratings on your account for a certain date. or weeks.
