Apple Could Resolve iPhone 12 Radiation Issue: Here’s How
Apple announced on Friday that it is releasing a software patch for iPhone 12 users in France after the country’s radiation watchdog (ANFR) reported that the iPhone 12 violates radiation exposure limits.
Earlier this week, ANFR issued a public statement stating that the iPhone 12 violates radiation levels and called on the company to temporarily suspend sales of the iPhone 12 and issue a fix.
“We are releasing a software update to users in France that complies with the protocol used by French regulators. We look forward to iPhone 12 continuing to be available in France,” the iPhone maker said in a statement.
According to reports, Apple said the software patch is related to “a special testing protocol used by French regulators and not a security concern.”
The California-based company had previously said that several international regulatory authorities have certified the iPhone 12 as compliant.
The French government welcomed the move, saying “ANFR is preparing to test this upgrade quickly”.
The tech giant, which just launched the iPhone 15 series, had said it had received independent third-party lab results showing that it complies with all SAR standards worldwide.
The EU’s most common SAR limit of 2 W/kg represents an average of more than 10 grams of tissue that absorbs the most signal, reports TechCrunch. This limit is slightly higher than the FCC limit in the USA (1.6 W/kg). Apple complies with this SAR limitation.
