Apple May Soon Offer iPhones and MacBooks in Matte Black Finish

Apple fanboys will soon be able to get iPhones and MacBooks in the popular matte black variant, as the company appears to have a patent that allows it to use the textured material in its products. The patent was reportedly filed in 2020 and has finally received approval from the United States Trademark and Patent Office (USTPO).

The patent basically allows Apple to use anodized matte black parts that provide a pristine matte black finish with no gaps in the design. The images available through the patent also suggest that Apple could bring a matte black variant to the iPhones and Apple Watch as well.

To be fair, Apple has launched the iPhone in a matte black color, but the feedback on the iPhone 7 series was not positive enough for the company to continue the variant for another couple of years. Applying for a patent for this version suggests that Apple is now serious about the material and wants to make sure the quality of the product is right before it hits the market.

Speaking of MacBooks, Apple hasn’t felt the need to introduce a matte MacBook for decades, even though matte black cases are very popular among MacBook users. A new patent in Apple’s armory suggests that a matte black iPhone will be introduced in the near future, but it probably won’t happen this year, with the new iPhones launching in less than a week.

The Apple iPhone 15 series will be released on September 12, and it is widely believed that the company will have the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max this year as well. Major camera upgrades are rumored for the Pro models, including a periscope lens for the first time on an iPhone.

The company could offer a dynamic island notch for all iPhone 15 models this year. The iPhone 15 Pro series may have a titanium body, which may increase the price of the product.
