Comcast Launches Storm-Proof WiFi Device in Preparation for Hurricane Season

Comcast has introduced Storm-Ready WiFi, a unique backup device designed to address the common issue of disrupted electric and landline connections during storms. This innovative solution, which Comcast claims is the first of its kind developed by an Internet Provider, aims to provide a sense of security and the ability to stay connected with loved ones or emergency services. Storm-Ready WiFi operates on Xfinity’s 10G Network, offers WiFi 6 compatibility, and also functions as a WiFi extender in favorable weather conditions.

As another reminder of the frightening effects of climate change, Comcast cites the increase in storms nationwide as why this extra device is necessary. Yes, you can write under Storm-Ready WiFi how you can feel more comfortable when the world is on fire – in the very dark, to say the least.

The service is designed to seamlessly transfer your connection to the Storm-Ready WiFi network in the event of a power outage. Storm-Ready WiFi’s battery lasts about four hours at a time (the average power outage in the US lasts about two hours). Of course, it’s not very good if your phone or computer runs out of battery, but otherwise you can work (or better yet, watch all the movies you want) while the sky opens up around you. Storm-Ready WiFi is available for purchase now for $7 per month for 36 months both in-store and online.
