This announcement comes after the discovery of documents earlier this year that unveiled the existence of a company named “X.AI Corp.” In an interview in April, Musk expressed his desire to establish a venture focused on AI that seeks ultimate truth and comprehension of the universe, with the intention of making a positive impact.

The website lists veterans from DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Tesla and the University of Toronto working on the project. “We co-invented some of the most widely used methods in the industry, particularly the Adam optimizer, batch normalization, layer normalization, and counterexample discovery,” the xAI website reads. “We continued to introduce innovative techniques and analytics such as Transformer-XL, Autoformalization, Memorizing Transformer, Batch Size Scaling, and μTransfer. We have worked on and led the development of some of the industry’s biggest breakthroughs, including AlphaStar, AlphaCode, Inception, Minerva, GPT-3.5, and GPT- 4.

In addition to Musk, the listed team includes Igor Babuschkin, Manuel Kroiss, Yuhuai (Tony) Wu, Christian Szegedy, Jimmy Ba, Toby Pohlen, Ross Nordeen, Kyle Kosic, Greg Yang, Guodong Zhang and Zihang Dai.
