Elon Musk is again talking about relaunching Vine, but no timeline yet

Elon Musk has made wholesale changes at Twitter since taking over in October 2022. He’s revamped Twitter Blue, made it available in more countries, stopped free developer access to Twitter’s APIs, and brought a new gold badge to brands. And Musk is still designing more products and reintroducing some of them as well.

Twitter had Periscope and Vine at one point and the market clearly didn’t appreciate its existence or understand the use case. But with short-form video platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels becoming the rage, it’s time for Twitter to consider bringing back Vine, which has been a plea for social bugs on several platforms in recent days.

Responding to one of the tweets, Musk claimed that Periscope lives in part through Spaces, but he understands that Vine needs to come back in a better and improved version. Vine can easily become a hit among Twitter users and be an ideal TikTok and Reels alternative for Indians who have not been able to access TikTok through legal channels since its ban in 2020.

Vine has been part of Musk’s agenda for a while, and he even suggested that the company might consider bringing back older content, which is sure to appeal to existing Vine users.

A Vine reboot could help Twitter add more users to the platform. He has yet to give a timeline for its relaunch, but expects Twitter to bring it back in some form very soon.

Musk has planned new things through the Twitter Blue subscription and it is possible that he may also offer Vine through the service. Twitter Blue has been launched in several markets since 2023, including India, where it costs Rs 900 per month on mobile devices (Android and iOS) and Rs 650 per month if you buy Twitter Blue through the web app.
