Elon Musk Reacts as X Surpasses Instagram and Facebook in Driving Google Traffic!

After advertisers left X (previously known as Twitter) due to ads being displayed alongside offensive content, critics speculated that the platform could face financial difficulties. Despite reassurances from owner and CTO Elon Musk, who denied these claims, many still believe that the ongoing political polarization could result in a mass exodus of users. A user recently shared a screenshot showing that X receives more organic traffic from Google than its competitors Instagram and Facebook, prompting a humorous response from Musk.

The original post was made by an account called “DogeDesigner” who claims to be a UX/UI and graphic designer at DogeCoin. A user posted a screenshot that ranked X, Instagram, and Facebook according to “Google’s top 100 organic search results for domain driven traffic.” The data focused on US desktop traffic in October 2023. The screenshot revealed that X ranked highest among the three with 640.6 million users, while Instagram ranked second with 548.3 million users, followed by Facebook with 491.7 million users.

Musk reacted to the post, saying, “We’re not dead yet,” followed by a laughing emoji.

It should be noted that the traffic data shared by the poster points to a very specific niche market. The whole picture is very different. According to Samanweb’s data comparing X and Facebook, the latter had a total of 16.7 billion visits to the website, compared to X’s 6.1 billion. Similarly, the data comparing X and Instagram highlights that Instagram is ranked higher than X with 6.7. billion visits in total. At the same time, X’s traffic has turned up compared to the previous month, which proves that it has been increasing visitors recently. We will only be able to properly assess the effects of fleeing advertisers and polarizing content next month, when Samanweb publishes the updated data.
