Experience the Benefits of Google Chat’s Revamped Navigation!

Google has made changes to its Chat app on Android and iOS devices to improve user experience. The company introduced a new bottom navigation bar, which aims to simplify navigation within the app. The updated design includes a pill-shaped navigation bar that allows easy access to Home, Direct Messages, Spaces, and Mentions. The bottom bar has also been redesigned to allow for seamless switching between Gmail, Chat, and Google Meet. Notably, the ‘Start new chat’ button has been aesthetically redesigned and moved to the right side of the navigation bar.

The Home button on the navigation bar stands out as a key feature that provides users with a unified view of all conversations. The filter option allows users to focus specifically on unread messages. According to the blog post, the “Direct Message” section has a concise list of both individual and group messages, while “Spaces” provides a compact overview of all spaces, including pinned conversations. Users can easily track messages that are important to them via the Mentions tab.

Deployment and availability

This renewed look, including the redesigned app and its features, is available to all Google Workspace customers and users with a personal Google Account. The update is currently in the rollout phase and is expected to reach all users in the coming weeks.

Additionally, Google has recently introduced an integrated document scanner feature in Google Drive for iPhone and iPad users. The Google Drive app on iOS and iPadOS now has its own floating action button for the document scanner, conveniently located above the Add New button in the Workspace, Shared & Files section. This feature enables automatic scanning of documents through the viewfinder and increases the flexibility of manual capture.

As part of these improvements, Google Chat is also undergoing a change that offers users a more versatile user experience. In the coming weeks, users may notice a different interface on all their devices. This includes a new look and additional features that strengthen Google Chat’s position as a versatile platform for quick questions, direct messages, group collaboration and more. The bottom navigation menu of the chat app allows easy navigation between the home page, direct messages, spaces, mentions and new chat. Users can explore various shortcuts and manage their conversations effectively.
