Former Apple Executives Launch Startup Utilizing Qualcomm Chips

Humane, the startup established by former Apple Inc executives, announced on Friday its decision to incorporate Qualcomm Inc’s chips into their upcoming wearable device. The company had previously secured $100 million in funding earlier this year.

Humane has not given a release date or many other details for the gadget, which it said Friday will be called the “Ai Pin.” Humane founder and president Imran Chaudhri introduced the Ai Pin earlier this year, showcasing an Internet-connected device dressed like a lapel pin that can answer spoken questions and reflect data from the user’s hand when held in front of the device.

Humane has taken a stand against Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset, after Chaudhri said during his demonstration that “the future is not in your face.” Humane has also filed a trademark application for that phrase.

Since Ai Pin does not have a traditional screen or keyboard, it relies heavily on artificial intelligence to interact with users through natural spoken language.

Sam Altman, CEO of ChatGPT creator OpenAI, is among Humane’s many investors, as is Microsoft Corp. Humane is partnering with OpenAI on AI technology and cloud services.

Humane and Qualcomm did not elaborate on what Qualcomm chips Ai Pin will use, but Dev Singh, Qualcomm’s business development director, said the offerings will come from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon family of chips, which can power devices ranging from smartphones to hybrids. -reality headphones, depending on the configuration.
