During Meta Connect 2023, Meta introduced a range of new AI-powered features for WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. The event highlighted the company’s venture into artificial intelligence with the launch of ‘Meta AI’, an AI assistant designed for seamless integration across Meta’s various platforms, particularly WhatsApp.

Meta AI offers an impressive array of features that allow users to interact with it in the same way that they would interact with another person. Meta AI is developed using a custom model derived from Llama 2, a generative text model, and Meta’s Large Language Model (LLM) research. Meta AI is ready to provide seamless chat experiences. In a strategic partnership, Meta has also partnered with Microsoft’s Bing to integrate real-time information retrieval for text-based conversations.

Creating images at your fingertips

One of Meta AI’s standout features is its image creation tool, which can produce lifelike images of text prompts in seconds. Users can access this feature by typing @MetaAI /image and a text prompt of their choice, enhancing the visual dynamics of their conversations.

Meta AI is not limited to individual conversations; it extends its usefulness to group discussions as well. However, its availability is currently limited to the US, and no immediate plans have been announced to go global. Regardless, Meta assures users that its AI assistant is ready to provide invaluable assistance, from giving recommendations and comic relief to resolving disputes and imparting new information.

During the presentation, Meta demonstrated the versatility of Meta AI by demonstrating scenarios such as asking for mocktail recommendations, highlighting its practical applicability in real-life situations.

Contacting Meta AI:

1. Open WhatsApp and find the Meta AI icon in the lower right corner.

2. Tap to access the Meta AI inbox.

3. Make inquiries or request images to be created effortlessly.

In addition to Meta AI, Meta revealed the development of 28 other artificial intelligence assistants and announced cooperation with prominent personalities from the worlds of sports, entertainment and internet culture. Celebrities such as Dwyane Wade, Kendall Jenner, MrBeast, Naomi Osaka and Snoop Dogg now have their own AI profiles on Instagram and Facebook, providing users with personal interactions. Meta plans to introduce more characters in the near future, so it aims to enrich the User Experiences on all its platforms.

In addition, Meta introduced AI stickers for WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and Facebook Stories, enhancing visual communication with custom stickers created from text prompts. This feature, similar to Snapchat’s AI-generated Bitmoji stickers, will gradually roll out to select English-language users over the next month, further expanding the creative possibilities of the Meta ecosystem.
