Mobile phones generated 59% of total internet traffic in 2022: Report

About 59 percent of all online traffic was made with mobile phones last year – almost 10 percent more than in 2021, according to a recent report on Monday.

According to data presented by CasinosEnLigne.com, mobile internet traffic has almost doubled in the past eight years, with almost two-thirds of online traffic coming from mobile devices.

Almost 7.4 billion people, or more than 90 percent of the world’s population, have a mobile phone.

This huge user base has helped mobile phones become the most popular device for accessing the Internet, and its share of online traffic is growing year on year, according to the report.

Furthermore, while the share of mobile phones in internet traffic continued to rise, the shares of laptops, computers and tablets fell in 2022.

According to statistics, the share of laptops in internet traffic last year was 38.9 percent, i.e. 10.4 percent less than in 2021, while the share of tablets decreased by 19.8 percent (y/y) to 1.98 percent.

Other devices, such as game consoles, generated just 0.02 percent of web traffic in 2022, down 33 percent from a year earlier.

According to the report, Belgium, Norway and Denmark have the smallest share of mobile internet traffic.

While global mobile traffic accounts for 59 percent of all internet traffic, there are significant differences between regions and countries, it said.

According to the Global 2023 Global Overview Report, Vietnam had the largest share of mobile internet traffic in 2022 at 86.6 percent, while Turkey and Nigeria ranked second and third with 84.9 percent and 83.6 percent respectively.

According to the report, the US, UK, Germany and France were all below the world average, with proportions ranging from 46% to 50%.

Mobile phones, on the other hand, were used the least for web browsing in Denmark and Norway, where their share of all online traffic was 32.9 percent and 34.8 percent, respectively.
