Patent Reveals Potential Design of Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch has been around for almost six years now, having been released in 2017, and as we approach the proverbial end of its life, rumors of the next generation Switch – possibly called Nintendo Switch 2 – are getting stronger.

A patent filed by Nintendo has recently surfaced, and it may offer the first look at what the next-gen Nintendo console could look like. As Gamerant pointed out, the patent was filed last year and published in October of this year. The patent highlights what appears to be a newly designed console.

Initially, the alleged console offers a dramatically different design compared to the current Switch. Instead of a design based on the Joy-Cons, that console has a new design with one joystick on the left side of the handheld console and four buttons on the right. What remains the same are its shoulder buttons at the top, and the home button in particular seems to have moved down.

Overall, based on the renders alone, the console certainly looks different, with just six buttons and a pressure-sensitive touchscreen. However, it remains to be seen if it really is the long-rumored Switch 2 or if there is some twist to it.

A few months ago during Gamescom, Nintendo was said to have made Switch 2 units available to users “behind closed doors” to certain media where they could play a remastered version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the. Wild with much better resolution and other game demos. However, it should be noted that so far there has been no official word on the end of Nintendo.

Per VGC, the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to launch sometime next year in 2024, and may have a portable mode like the Nintendo Switch – not following in the footsteps of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
