Report: Apple iPad Pro and MacBook to Feature OLED Displays With Special Materials

The Cupertino-based technology giant Apple is said to bring OLED displays to the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro models in 2026/2027. Now, a new report suggests that future iPad Pro and MacBook models with OLED panels will use new, specialized display materials.

The Elec says the iPhone maker has partnered with LG Display to integrate new OLED material sets into some of its upcoming devices, including the upcoming ‌iPad Pro‌ and MacBook models, MacRumors reports.

LG’s OLED material line will be used in the upcoming 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models, while the next-generation MacBook to be released in 2027 will adopt LG’s later OLED material line, according to the report.

It also mentioned that the OLED panels planned for the upcoming iPad Pro and MacBook models will feature a dual-stack tandem design, consisting of two light-emitting layers stacked together.

Dual-stack OLED construction can produce the same brightness levels as single-stack counterparts, but with significantly lower power consumption and extended lifespan. MacRumors said the iPhone currently has a single-stack OLED display with a single light-emitting layer.

In related news, Ross Young, CEO of research firm Display Supply Chain Consultant, recently revealed that Apple’s first MacBook Pro models with OLED screens are still at least three years away from release.

He said it will take a few years for Apple’s supply chain partners to build production lines to mass produce laptop-sized OLED panels.

This is the main reason why Young doesn’t expect MacBook Pro models with OLED displays to be released until 2026 or 2027. He also shared that time frame before.

According to MacRumors, Young has been a reliable source of display-related information for upcoming Apple products for several years and has a very accurate track record.

Compared to current MacBook Pro models with LCD screens, the benefits of OLED technology include increased brightness, higher contrast ratio and deeper blacks, improved power consumption, longer battery life, and more.
