Samsung makes its Mixed Reality headset using Android and Qualcomm

Samsung is a giant in the smartphone arena and has recently been trying to change its fortunes with laptops. Now the South Korean brand has confirmed its plans to have a Mix Reality (XR) headset in the near future, for which it is seeking expertise from Qualcomm and Android.

Samsung launched the new Galaxy S23 phones and Galaxy Book3 Pro laptops, but on the sidelines of the event, the company had top executives from Qualcomm and Android sharing this product development update. We don’t know the name of that product yet, but we can assume that Samsung will use the Android operating system for this handset and use Qualcomm’s XR hardware to run the device.

Google has been working on a new version of Android that is compatible with such devices, and we believe that Samsung could be one of the partners that will use this platform in their upcoming product. Mixed Reality is being called the next big focus of the tech industry, and Apple is rumored to be working on it, with reports expecting a product later this year.

Mixed reality is a mix of virtual and augmented reality, but you still need a headset to get the best results. That being said, making it AR-ready means you can also make them work through smartphones.

Samsung hopes that partnering with the likes of Qualcomm and Android will provide a successful model that will help them build a product that not only makes it to market, but also becomes a viable option for buyers.

Many brands have tried to rush their product development and have failed to leave their mark. Samsung wants to avoid these prospects and bring out the product only when it is ready – both on the hardware and software side. Either way, we’ll be interested to see what this partnership brings and whether the new version of Android will be a better option than tablets and wearables over the years.
