TweetDeck Rebrands as ‘XPro’

TweetDeck is showing signs that it will be affected by Twitter’s rebranding. When you visit the tool’s landing page without logging in, you will notice that it now displays “XPro” in the upper left corner, indicating its new name. However, apart from this change, the page still features the familiar Twitter bird logo and describes TweetDeck as a powerful real-time tool for Twitter users. Additionally, the URL for TweetDeck remains unchanged as https://tweetdeck.twitter.com/, similar to Twitter’s URL which is now referred to as X’s URL: https://twitter.com/.

Twitter’s rebranding to “X” hit us literally overnight in July, when Elon Musk announced the change in a tweet and then reportedly emailed his employees about it afterward. The social network began implementing changes after that, replacing the Twitter bird with a generic-looking “X” logo that apparently “evolves over time,” as well as renaming Tweets to “posts” and retweets to “reposts.” Google and Apple relisted the social network app as “X” on the Play Store and App Store by the end of July.

The move, while sudden, may not come as a surprise to those who have followed Musk’s career over the years. Musk is known for favoring the “X” brand and wanted to rename PayPal to X.com before he was ousted as CEO. The executive also renamed Twitter’s parent company X Corp. He said the social network’s new name will help it branch out and become an “everything app” with payment and banking functions. But critics question the success of the rebrand, with some calling it “the dumbest thing [Musk] has done since he took over” and something that makes the company less recognizable and more valuable.

Despite the criticism, the removal of the Twitter brand is now well underway. TweetDeck won’t stay TweetDeck for very long, and it won’t be free anytime soon. The company has previously stated that it will be locked behind a paywall and is exclusively available to Blue subscribers.
