Twitch to Experiment with ‘Discovery feed’ Similar to TikTok

In July, Twitch revealed its plans for new features on the app. One of these features, called the “Discovery feed,” will be similar to TikTok and will showcase short clips from Twitch creators. This will allow creators to gain new viewers and subscribers even when they are not actively using the platform. The app will have a dedicated section for these clips, resembling TikTok, where viewers can easily browse through videos. Let’s delve into the details of this upcoming Twitch feature.

Twitch Discovery feed

Discovery feed is a new way for users to view and interact with shared content. The new feature is rolling out today, but only for select users. In the initial months, the feature will be in a horizontally scrolling feed, and later it will change to a vertically scrolling feed as the algorithm starts to evolve and adapt. According to a message shared by company X (formerly Twitter), the feed is live and they are selecting users to test the new feature.

Twitch tweeted: “Our first Discovery Feed trial starts today for select users. This limited experience helps us train our algorithm and get feedback. Feature clips after every Stream so you can be found in the feed even if you’re not in the Experience.”

You’ll find currently popular clips in the discovery feed, as well as “featured” clips (producers can choose which of their clips are included in the “featured” collection). As part of the testing, the company also focuses on training its application’s algorithms and collects user feedback before the actual release.

According to a TechCrunch report, Twitch’s creators asked for more attractive features to build a fan base and attract new subscribers. Unlike other social media platforms, Twitch has very limited means of attracting new audiences.

Twitch also added, “Since Twitch is all about live interactive channels, our goal is not to have viewers spend hours on your Clips feed. Our investment in Clips is to help viewers find your channel so they can connect with you and your community when you stream.”
