Samsung is ready to take on Apple’s AirTags with its next-gen tracker: All the details
Samsung has released a new ultra-wideband (UWB) Exynos chip that could be used in next-generation Apple AirTags, such as the tracker. The Exynos Connect U100 chip gives you the option of radio frequency, flash memory and power management technology in one chip.
Samsung released the SmartTag before, but its popularity is nowhere near the popularity of the Apple AirTags tracker, which may change with the next version of the SmartTag, which could be powered by the new Exynos U100 chip.
It also has encryption technology that provides encryption at the device level. According to Samsung, the U100 chip is ideal for IoT and automotive applications.
In addition to tracking devices, Samsung could also integrate this chip into special military equipment and also AR/VR devices. Samsung also plans to supply the U100 chip to Google, which has become a close partner for the South Korean brand since launching its co-developed WearOS platform for smartwatches.
Samsung hasn’t officially specified which product will use the U100 chip first, but certifications have been made, and expect the company to have an AirTags competitor later this year. Looking at the performance of the U100 chip, it is possible that Samsung could integrate it into its Galaxy smartphones as well.
Samsung will face more challenges in the folding circuit for the first time in 2023. So far, the company has introduced the fourth generation of folding and flipping products in the Galaxy Z series, but it includes e.g. Oppo, Motorola, Xiaomi and OnePlus. In the coming quarters, the competitive segment is expected to finally gain the momentum and demand expected by consumers. The company will probably announce the new foldables at an event later this year in August.
