Booking.com Unveils AI-Driven Trip Planner: Here’s What You Need to Know

On Tuesday, Booking.com revealed its intention to test a travel planner that will utilize the advanced language model of ChatGPT.

Testing will be conducted on the company’s travel booking app, and will allow a limited group of US travelers to ask questions and create itineraries.

Launching on Wednesday, this new feature leverages Booking.com’s existing machine learning models to offer a variety of destination and accommodation options.

“The new AI Trip Planner presents us with really exciting opportunities to help our customers plan and search for travel options in a very natural and human way,” Rob Francis, chief technology officer at Booking.com, said in a statement.

ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by OpenAI, has been the talk of the tech industry since its launch last year.

This generative AI technology simulates dialogue, answers follow-up questions, acknowledges mistakes, and challenges false assumptions.

Booking.com plans to release the first version of its trip planner to select members of its Genius loyalty program in the United States in the coming weeks.

Powered by ChatGPT, this innovative feature allows users to engage in conversations and get personalized recommendations for their travel destinations.

Expedia, a competitor to Booking.com, followed suit by introducing a test version of its own in-app travel planning experience powered by ChatGPT. This allows users to interact with the feature and get suggestions for places to visit.
