Compete Against Former Flames in ‘Thirsty Suitors’ on November 2nd

The Thirsty Suitors trailer from Annapurna Interactive concludes with the catchy tagline: “Engage in battles with your former partners, defy your parents’ expectations, and discover your true self.” This statement clearly indicates that the upcoming game is taking a unique and unconventional approach. Annapurna and Outerloop Games have recently revealed that this cross-platform RPG, which revolves around the theme of returning home and reconciling with past chaos, will be released on November 2nd.

Originally released in 2021, Thirsty Suitors takes you into the world of Jala, who returns to the small town of Timber Hills “after a brutal breakup.” There, he “must face everything he left behind,” as story director Meghna Jayanth explains. This includes “the tattered expectations of her immigrant parents, the claustrophobic small-town gossip and the messy array of broken hearts she left behind.” The action revolves around cooking with her parents, ice skating at the local park (but watch out for the out-of-shape punk kids), and a stylistically superior turn-based battle against her “thirsty ex-suitors”.

The creators of the game say that the former showdowns force Jala to face the perspective of each unsatisfied lover: you will be completely drawn into the world created by their subjective. For example, when fighting Sergio, her “overconfident, insecure, macho, needy and way too thirsty” childhood boyfriend, she sees her immediate surroundings from his perspective: “a psychic landscape where she imagines herself to be a man. reality.” In this reflection of Sergio’s self-aggrandizement, he appears invincible—that is, until you invite his mother (a giant, prescient apparition in his immature mind) to cut him down to size with a timed slipper.

If the battles are successful, they end not in bloody defeat of your opponent, but in reconciliation: better understanding of each other’s point of view. While the action looks pretty busy in the game’s trailers, you can’t deny the development team’s obvious creativity and fresh approach to the narrative, gameplay, and art style.

Thirsty Suitors will be released on 2 November. It is available on Steam, Switch, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Game Pass.
