Europe Delivers Significant Update on Bing and Edge for Microsoft

(Reuters) – Microsoft’s Bing search engine, Edge browser and advertising services are likely to fall outside the scope of Europe’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

European regulators concluded the products are not dominant enough to be regulated as part of a five-month market investigation due to end in February, according to the report.

This comes as a respite days after EU competition authorities announced that Microsoft’s financial support for ChatGPT maker OpenAI could be subject to European Union merger rules.

However, the company is expected to announce measures to comply with the DMA regulation, which hits products such as its Windows operating system and its professional networking platform, LinkedIn.

Under the law, which all major tech companies must comply with by March 7, companies are required to treat their own services and products like their competitors.
